More Butterfly Love

So if you've been hanging around my world for a while, you know that I am just fascinated with butterflies. In fact, it was one of my first posts that I wrote. I relate personally to them and they symbolize so much to me as a Christian.

As part of our homeschooling......and just my own obsession with them.......we were blessed to experience the entire life cycle of Monarch Butterflies. It was truly one of the most amazing things to be part of.

We took pictures so N could make her Monarch's Miraculous Journey book with each stage captured. I would like to add my own spiritual analogies as well.

OK, we start with a teeny tiny egg.....about the size of a poppy seed. We (humans) start out as a teeny tiny fertilized egg.

After a few days.....the teeny caterpillar emerges, just as we are born/emerge from the womb. Obviously for us, it takes alot longer than a few days......the first three months of dry heaving and the lovely spider veins on my ankles that exploded the last few months of my pregnancies will confirm that.

This little caterpillar ate and ate and ate. I mean, this little bugger wiped out a leaf 20 times it's size in one day. It was amazing to wake up the next morning and see it double in size! It was completely preoccupied with it's own needs.

Consuming, consuming, consuming. Reminds me of when all I did was consume (physically/materialistically) for my own pleasure.

Then when it was full size.....it found it's way to that popsicle stick and hung in a J motionless for a full day(I think it's kinda "God-ronic" isn't it......a "J" for Jesus....ok, ok.....I know I can get corny....but I find that following these caterpillars' lives brings me even further in awe for the Creator and His attention to every detail. Think about it, He could have just created butterflies that laid eggs with tiny butterflies in them, right?)

We went to bed that night and woke up to this amazing sight. How cool is that? This chrysalis even had beautiful gold beads that appeared to be the sealing point. Another "leave-it-to-out-awesome-God" to add His majestic and artistic touch.

I imagine the transformation that this caterpillar was going through was dark and very uncomfortable. But throughout all this uncertainly, miraculous change is taking place. Just like when we are leaving our old dark ways of the world and entering into our new spiritual faith filled life with Christ. Before and even during our transformation or metamorphosis......we are usually lost and in the dark. I know that I was in a painful place physically and emotionally. I was in a confused, uncomfortable place where I almost felt paralyzed like that motionless caterpillar.

I also like to imagine that this caterpillar embraced these changes without question. She trusted that these changes, no matter how painful....would be transforming her to a new and better creation. I remember when I really really really got to the point where I gave my life completely over to God....I just trusted and said "OK God, I have no idea on what You are going to do with me and I am pretty sure it is not going to be easy for me.... (and pretty sure I was a handful for Him to work with as well)....but I am ready for change."

And this was no different....change it was.

Meet SONshine. Her (yes, we learned how to tell if they are male or female) "birth"/emerging was one of the most incredible things we were blessed to be part of. It really was a blessing. I mean, in a little over two weeks.....we got a glimpse of one of God's masterpieces in the making.

She was more beautiful than these pictures can capture....her grace and beauty was breath-taking. She was delicate but had this amazing sense of strength as she pumped her wings, getting ready to take her first flight around our home.

On Friday, Star was "born"....we like to refer to him as SONshine's brother.

It had been raining for the past few days, so we kept them together in a home filled with beautiful flowers until we were able to release them. I was so thankful to have a few extra days with them. They were on my kitchen table so I got to sit with my morning cup of coffee and just take it all in. I mean, how blessed was I to wake up to butterflies in my kitchen?

And although I would have loved to keep them with us forever.....we loved them enough to know that they needed to start on their journey to Mexico soon enough. We thanked them, we said a prayer and released them this morning.

It is all part of the Big Cycle of Life. ;)

"So whoever is in Christ is a new creation:
the old things have passed away;
behold, new things have come."
2 Corinthians 5:17

I hope you enjoyed our little recap of the miraculous journey we followed :)

Peace and love~

Talk me off this Cliff!

OK.....so maybe I am being a little dramatic......but do you ever get overwhelmed with your list of things to do that you feel like that sometime?

It's not like I have a major assignment with that multi-million dollar account due for the corporate office. Or that I am responsible for the state's budget and hold thousands of people's jobs in my hands.

It's just a bunch of things/responsibilities that seem to have crept up on me and WHAM.....they are on my back, in my face and poking at my ribs.

Some of these things could have been handled over the course of the summer.....and I take full responsibility for letting them slide. In my defense.....I feel that the few weeks we actually get of summer are better spent enjoying them as much as possible rather than keeping up with a "to-do" list.

Some of these things are time sensitive, others are not. Some come up sporadically, others I have had enough time to prepare.....but dropped the ball, admittedly so.

Another "in my defense" thing is that not only do I have all my kids' different schedules and running around.....there are very few nights where we don't have 2-3 or more extra kids here. I often wake up to this scene.....finding bodies where ever they decide to crash. Most of the time it is my older boys' friends so that presents the issue of needing to grocery shop twice as much. Try having to keep up with the appetites of four 6'2" and up giants. I swear they all have tape worms. One afternoon they ripped through 1.5 gallons of milk, two boxes of cereal, a loaf of bread, a pound of turkey, 1/2 pound of deli cheese, two bags of chips, 2 loaves of zucchini bread and a half case of spring water. I won't even tell you what we spent at the local pizza place for dinner. Let's just say that their jobs are secure for at least the rest of the month.

With that said.....I am completely blessed and wouldn't have it any other way. I love that our house is "the house" that kids love to be and feel at home to raid my cupboards.

I also am, as I have mentioned countless times, severely ADD impaired and sometimes find it hard to find my way out of a wet paper bag. My organization skills are pretty much non-existent and that is the main curse with this situation. So basically the visual is the little chores/task start collecting at my ankles, then more responsibilities start to pile on causing me to be a little bound at the knees. I try to start wiggling my way and tending to the knee high tasks.......get distracted and before I know it I am waist deep with random projects that need attention. Then that front end loader shows up with larger, more labor intensive projects and I find myself suffocating, frustrated and beaten down.

And I think that is my main concern......feeling beaten down. Kinda like a frustrated failure. I mean, I know I am not a failure.....but this feeling of being bound is so discouraging and I know part of it is the enemy speaking it into me and my spirit. He wants me to feel that way.

He tries to tell me that "See....you kept it "fun" all summer and now look at you. You are a mess. Who is the good mom now?!.....you can't even get your own act together, how are you going to lead and care for your children and family like this? You can't even take care of your own day to day agenda.....nevermind life!" Then he gives on last low blow.....he loves to remind us of all our shortcomings and ugly past......"You were a complete mess before and think you have it all together now in your life......but you don't. Once a mess, always a mess."

So yeah....that's not a fun place to be. The only good thing about having ADD is that something else will come soon enough to distract me......maybe a butterfly or a funny commercial.....and I move on. But it stays tucked away in my mind and it seems to be a place that is revisited more often lately.

Anyway........yesterday, I was dropping off one of the kids that took up residence at our place for the weekend.....and I got a phone call reminding me of yet another obligation. My brain started racing and I felt I was in that choke-hold position again. Fortunately I was driving so I couldn't run in my bedroom and hide under the covers and wish it away (not that I ever do that!). But right when I was getting to get prepared for a new and improved pity party (remember, I am the "hostest with the mostest" on those kind of parties) a certain song came on the radio.

Now I will say that I have heard this song before and being honest....I didn't really care for it. I mean, it was OK.....but I thought it was kinda too commercial for what I usually listen to. But I am guessing God wanted me to fine tune my "listening" ears and really hear these lyrics. The song is Free to be Me by Francesca Battistelli.

I found the video and posted the lyrics....at first I was thinking about singing it for you, but she does a much better job. (and I didn't want to break any of your best crystal, start the neighborhood dogs a-howling or your ears to possibly bleed)

I think the two lines that spoke to me the most (and brought me to tears with my hormonal self) are:

On my own I'm so clumsy but on Your shoulders I can see I'm free to be me

and

Sometimes I believe that I can do anything yet other times I think I've got nothing good to bring
But You look at my heart and You tell me that I've got all You seek

So here you go.....(don't forget to pause my player)....

At twenty years of age I'm still looking for a dream
A war's already waged for my destiny
But You've already won the battle
And You've got great plans for me
Though I can’t always see

‘Cause I got a couple dents in my fender
Got a couple rips in my jeans
Try to fit the pieces together
But perfection is my enemy
On my own I'm so clumsy
But on Your shoulders I can see
I'm free to be me

When I was just a girl I thought I had it figured out
My life would turn out right, and I'd make it here somehow
But things don't always come that easy
And sometimes I would doubt

(Chorus)

And you’re free to be you

Sometimes I believe that I can do anything
Yet other times I think I've got nothing good to bring
But You look at my heart and You tell me
That I've got all You seek
And it’s easy to believe...

So yeah.....it def. spoke to me and reminded me that God loves me exactly the way He made me.....even when I am dis-combobulated (not sure if that is a word) and all. He has great plans for me and as long as I am seeking Him.....I am a winner.

Now I am going to step back from this mountain of chaos and with the help of prayer, start tackling it piece by piece. I made a list last night and so far.....even at 8:30 this morning, have already cross off two items......only 47 more to go! WOOT!

Have a beautiful day!

Three Things This Thursday (Rescue Mission, FREE fun and a prayer request)

Thursday already? Yikes! Where did the week go?
OK folks.....3TTT is a fun way to share three random things such as recipes, tips, funny stories from your week. It also can be a place for prayer requests or maybe you just need to vent about something. The beauty is.....there are "no rules"!

So grab the button from my sidebar and jump right in.....come on, the water is great!

1. So we all know by now that I am an complete animal lover (except for that spawn of Satan otherwise known as the fisher cat.) Yeah, I am the one who lets out spiders and leaves food for the deer in our woods.
And I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree......N came home with this little guy a couple of days ago. Isn't he cute? I am stressing "cute" because my friend Amanda is completely grossed out by mice and refuses to have "cute" and "mouse" in the same sentence. So never being able to refuse a little extra fun in my life....I sent her this photo and I bet she would really appreciate it if you email her photos of little critters too! So feel free to get in touch with her on that. (actually she has a fantastic blog, so I encourage you to pop on over an visit her too!)

So this one is for you, Amanda. This cute little critter was rescued by N. She wanted to keep it as a pet, but I had to remind her that he belongs outside with all his other wild little critter friends. The conversation went like this:

N: Mom, look at what I saved today? Can we keep him?

Me: ooooooooh he is so cute, look at his little face. But no honey, we have to let him go.

N: We can't!!! Look at his widdle sad eyes.....he will be so lost out there in the world.

Me: No,.....he'll be fine. He'll needs to be back with his family. They will miss him.

N: Uh, no they won't! mom, listen to me! (putting her hands on the sides of my jaw to get my complete attention).......we have to keep him. I saved him from being eating by Mr. Mittens (neighbors cat). If I let him go, he will be so lost and lonely.

Me: N, listen (prying her hands off my face)......he needs to go back to his family, he will find them and be safe.

N: MOM!! (looking very stern at me)....His family is IN Mr. Mitten's stomach! I watched them all go down!

Me: *gulp*

FYI, *we will be setting Mr. Sad Eyes free later today......I talked N into making a little condo out back for him complete with a month's supply of bird seed and fluffy bedding for sweet dreams.

2. Be prepared! Get a jump start on the summertime "I'm bored" complaints. In our area, we have movie theaters that offer free (or close to it) movies for kids. One theater offers free admission for kids under 12 for the 10AM movie and adults bring a canned good for the local food bank. The movies are usually second run, but who wouldn't want to watch "Horton Hears a Who" or "Alvin and the Chipmunks" on the big screen again? Perfect for a rainy day or a nice escape from a hot humid one.

Wildlife sanctuaries/conservatories are great places to visit too. Many of them offer free tours....we've gone to this one, Norcross Wildlife Sanctuary for a few homeschooling field trips. The kids studied various subjects such as vernal pools (which I had never even heard of) and wildflower gardens. The classes included tours, projects and a short little classroom lesson. It was fantastic.....and free!

And check out your local libraries and community centers for other inexpensive things to do. Our library is theater workshops, book & game clubs, art and craft classes all summer long. They also have discounted passes for local zoos and museums....and rent DVDs for free. Again, they might not be the newest releases....but free works for me!

3. And now.......I have a prayer request. My brother in law and his wife were expecting their second blessing. Erin was just about 10 weeks over this past weekend and she started to experience spotting. The spotting got heavier and they ended up going to the doctor. An ultrasound confirmed that they lost their precious baby. Please lift them up in prayer as I know the pain and confusion they are going through all too well.

Lord, please keep Alex and Erin wrapped tightly in Your Comforting Arms. Give them strength. Grant them peace. Gently remind them that You always love them and are weeping along with them. God, You are good.......ALL the time. Your ways are not our ways and we may not understand why these things happen, but we trust in You, for You are The Great I AM. The Alpha and The Omega. You are the Author of our Lives. In Your Holy Name~ Amen

Thanks for taking the time to pop in my world.......please join in and leave your links/comments below. Have a wonderful day today! :)

peace, love and stay barefoot~

she drew him out of the water

I stumbled upon a fun carnival called "We Heart Art" event which is promoting children's artwork throughout the week. It is being hosted over at Domestically Challenged, 3baybchicks, and I am Living Proof That God Has a Sense of Humor's blogs. Make sure you check it out....they are giving away random prizes and you have the chance to check out some great creative projects.

I am not super crafty......but my *heart* is always in whatever craft we do and I am thrilled to be also teaching my children about God along the way:

This is from one of our homeschooling Bible lessons.....we used some scraps of felt, pipe cleaners and dyed some glue with blue food coloring. *a little hint...let go of all creative control and allow your child to place Baby Moses and the reeds in the jar they way they want with their perfectly sized hands and fingers...or you might find yourself in a panicked state with visions of driving yourself to the Emergency Room with a salsa jar stuck on your hand. Not that it happened here.....(Just.saying.)

We were learning about the story of Moses being rescued from the basket in the reeds and showing us that God is always looking out for us. God knew His plans for Moses even then, just like He knows the plans He has for us. It's kinda cool on how we can look back at our lives and see God's hand in every situation, we may not understand why things happen but who better to trust your life in than God.

So maybe today.......or this week......we can take some time to really focus on what God has lined up for us. It doesn't have to be the overwhelming task of your "big plan" of your life.....just what He has lined up for you to do today. Maybe it's just calling and lending an ear to someone who is going through a difficult time. Or maybe you could make a double batch of that lasagna and drop it off at an elderly neighbors house......just because. (oh, if you can't think of anyone, email me for our address......my kids/husband could use a good home-cooked meal, LOL) Maybe pay for the person behind you at the drive-thru (I'll let you know where/when we are going while waiting for your homecooked meal to be delivered to us....just look for older, very dirty minivan with the "Warning, UnSocialized Homeschoolers on Board" sticker on the back window).

So yeah....think about a random act of kindness that you can do. These opportunities are perfect for planting seeds. Seeds of hope and love which of course are all pointing to Christ. Sometimes we are so busy in our own lives that we don't notice that there are many people who are struggling to find peace and happiness.....only to get discouraged and left with a void in their life......A void can only be filled with knowing God. It's our job to be His vessel and have His kindness and love shine through us.

So I hope you have a blessed day....and I can assure you....there will be a day when you might need a little random act of kindness your way, and God will send someone or something along, just in time.....with just what you need. ;)

Three Things This Thursday (giveaway, free stuff and something even better)

So LOST was a recap last night.....I will put a bag on my head and admit that I was having a hard time staying awake.....still the aftermath of mind-racing wakeful nights and knowing that I didn't need to have my precision deciphering antennae up for secret clues or observations

.....or maybe there were some clues with that recap I missed.....please let me know!

So let's get to Three Things This Thursday

1. I am excited to be doing a fun Earth Day Giveaway this week......yeah yeah, I know it was yesterday, but as you can see.....I had something more important weighing on my heart so I was distracted.

I am a reusable bag addict. Seriously.......I buy one at every store I see them at......and is it me or are they getting cuter and cuter? My aunt came over with this adorable one from Stop and Shop with a mama and baby polar bear on it and then I saw these funky ones at Target the other day.
So anyway.....I also went in on a coop recently with Chico Bags and I have one that I am giving away to one of my tree hugging friends.....that would be you guys. ;)

It comes in a little pouch as shown, except this one is olive green. All you need to do is leave a comment and let me know something you do or have that is a great "green" thing. Could be your favorite earth friendly cleaning product, a green "tip" to share.....maybe something like the Earth Day gift we gave to our birds this week! You also can get bonus entries if you subscribe to my blog and/or if you post/twitter/facebook about it. Just leave a separate comment for each time you blab about it. ;) I am also allowing Anon. comments, so please make sure you leave your email addy so I have a way to contact you.

(*Oh, and if you are leaving any tidbits on LOST, that counts too.......just let me know that you want to be entered!)

I'll use that random org thingamajig and pick a winner next Monday Wednesday evening so I can include it with my WMFW over at We are That Family's blog too! :)

2. I found (as in friends have sent along to me and/or tips from fellow homeschoolers/bloggers) a few more cool FREE resources with homeschooling. First, there is a free downloadable (is that a word???......yikes, scary thought that I am responsible for my children's education) book that has 101 Ways to Save Money on Homeschooling. I will tell you that I did download it, but haven't gotten chance to really look at it.....so I cannot vouch for it personally. But I am sure if there are 101 suggestions......there should be able to use at least a couple that could help, right?

Another free resource I stumbled upon was these Bible e-charts at Rose Publishing. Again.......I just found this and haven't gotten chance to know the nitty gritty on the company (and you can see that when I recommend any of these products/resources....I clearly am not getting anything from them, quite sure they do not know I exist, lol).

I did see a couple of charts that I will be printing out such as The Amour of God, Bible maps, etc......see them all here. When you sign up with your email, they will send you new charts every week or so. The only thing I am not sure of is there are some "comparisons" of religions and I am not so sure what that will be all about. But like a cafeteria line....it's nice to be able to just pick and choose what might work for you.

3. And saving the best for last.....although giveaways and free stuff are always good......

is the greatest FREE thing you can get.

GOD!

That's right folks......come on down (Price is Right style).....God's love is free and He has plenty to go around. (He's got this way about multiplying things and never running out......it's insane!) All you need to do is accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and start (continue) living your life for Him.

"that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

Does this mean that your life will now be free from sadness, issues or confusion? Nope. Won't even try to sell you on that idea......But what I will tell you is that you will now have the Great Comforter, The Ultimate Physician, and the most Qualified Counselor in your life that will see you through it all! You will have The Gentle Shepherd to lead, correct and protect you.....The Redeemer who will forgive.

He is the Truth.......He is the Way....He is the Life.

.......and that's my final answer. :)

Have a wonderful day.......if you want to participate in the Three Things This Thursday fun.....please leave your link with Mr. Linky~

Peace~

Jumpstart on Earth Day

So Earth Day is coming up this week......and being a tree-hugging Jesus freak, I thought I'd pass along a few ideas that help save the world (that God gave us) throughout this whole week.

Genesis 1:26 tells us......

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

I believe that yes, we do have dominion over all God's creatures........and we also have the obligation to do what we can to treat them with respect/kindness, protect them and live peaceably with them.

I am pretty much in awe of all the creatures that God has made (hence the name of my blog). It blows me away to think about how God gave us *so* many beautiful living things for us to look at and learn about. Each living thing playing a critical role in the balance of nature. I don't watch TV often, but I just love the Planet Earth series on Discovery. I simply block out all the "instinct" or "evolving" references and enjoy the amazing works of our God.

The same God that created you and me......taught the spiders to spin flawless intricate webs, the African wild dogs to hunt with such precise strategy, and birds to construct incredible homes for their young.

So speaking of nests, I am simply fascinated with them. It just blows me away to see how birds create these amazing homes.....the intricate layering of twigs with just the perfect amount of mud keeping it all together. Such a masterpiece!I love when we find abandoned ones around our property. In fact, you are sure to see one in many places in my home. Sometimes I fill them with smooth stones or acorns....this spring I put three pastel peanut M & M's for our Easter centerpiece in the one that we found in our Christmas tree!

So this little idea/project helps keep our earth healthy and helps out our little feathered friends.....not sure of the name, so I'll call it a "nesting gift bag".

Basically all you need to do is reuse a produce bag (those plastic onion or orange bags work great) and tuck in items that birds can use to build their nests. You can fill it with dryer lint, small strips of fabric, embroidery thread, ribbons, straw, brightly colored yarn scraps are perfect too......stuff that we find "useless" will make a nice warm, soft and colorful addition to a bird's home. I found some moss and stuck some of that in there as well. You can pull a few pieces of the yarn/ribbon out to give them a head start. Then we hung it on a tree that we could see from our house. It will be fun to watch the birds come by and take some materials....you might even spot where they are heading out to build their nest. The bonus would be to see a nest with specks of color in your yard or neighborhood in a few weeks.

So there you go.....an easy project to do this year for Earth Day. I am sure I'll have a few more ideas for you as the week goes on. Please share what you guys are doing this week....I'd love to get more ideas too. I am linking this onto the WFMW fun over at We are That Family's blog......be sure to stop by to see more great tips/ideas.

I hope you are enjoy the SONshine today. :)

Peace~

Three Things This Thursday

1. LOST So this way a big smiling episode for me!

Hurley and Miles are in my "Fave Five" for characters so I loved that they were the central focus. Their conversations were cracking me up......everything from Hurley explaining his Star Wars idea to how they compared the fact that they both talk to dead people.

So we learned that yet another guy has huge father/son issues......Miles finds out from his dying mother that his dad kicked them out when he was just a baby.......(or did he?) We also get an inclination that his dad might be responsible for his dead-people-talking ability.

We also learn that it is possible to be on the island in this whole crazy time travel and be two different ages as Miles sees himself as a baby (who I thought was so cute in his Dharma onsie)
.....and btw, who didn't get a little choked up when Dr. Chang/Candle/whoever he is says to Miles....."hey, Miles, I need you".....and he replies, quite child-like....."you do?"

We see "The Hatch" being built.....how freaky was it to see those numbers come back into the picture. Another thing you might have caught is that it appeared that there was something Egyptian being taught at the Dharma school....when Jack was erasing the boards....another something I pointed out last week.

It was nice to see Naomi ......and again confirm that Widmore did a massive grave robbing and staged that whole Oceanic Flight 815 recovery.....or at least that is what that dead guy spilled for information.

We now also know that Illana's sidekick, Bram is also "in" on something.....he was the thug that kidnapped Miles in that van, asked the good ole "what lies in the shadow of the statue" question and threatened him to not take the freighter trip......hmmmmmmmmm? We also know now that Ben must have accepted Miles offer for 3.2 million (double Widmore's offer of 1.6 million) as that was the first question that Miles had for him last season, remember?

We also confirmed the intense electromagnetic ability when that dude's filling got pulled through his skull/brain.....thanks again, Miles!

And a HUGE smile to see Daniel Faraday! WOOT! The fact that he instantly recognized Miles def lets us know that he has the ability to travel more precisely. He is coming to the island as a scientist from Ann Arbor, so he must have had to work that into his life to line it all up

.....can't wait to hear what he has to say, hopefully he can clear up some of this time travel craziness.

Favorite line: Hurley to Miles "You're just jealous that my power is better than yours"

Please leave all your LOST comments and/or links today....love to hear them!

2. Today is Josh's official birthday......even though we had his surprise party last weekend, today is THE day. N and I will be making a special cake for him, although it will be a quiet night with just the three of us. E is spending the night at a friend's house.....and G and H are at The Awakening Conference from tonight until Sat. Last year, there was over 800 youth that attending this awesome event..this year, they expect almost 1000.

I encourage all parents with children of all ages to start "feeding" your children Christ as early as possible. Something in this "world" is gonna grab them early in their adolescence......whether it is their peers' interests, drugs, not-so-positive roll models on TV/Internet/etc, whatever.....I pray that it is Jesus.

3. Today N and I are going to a Fancy Nancy tea party at our local library.......

I never thought my little rag-a-muffin tomboy would like this book series, but she does! So we are putting on our fanciest clothes and heading down for an afternoon of fun.......

ETA: just came back from a fantastic time.....the girls had fancy things waiting for them (including VERY fancy gloves), ate a fancy lunch, and listened to a book about fancy new words to use.....so fun! They even made a fancy purse and wand to take home.....BRAVO for our public library for offering such a wonderful *free* event!

Have a fantastic day today........please feel free to share three things with me. Prayer requests, funny photos.....a great new recipe or tip!

Peace and love~
